SICArm UCA BALL JOINT INSTALLATION STEPS:

**NOTES**  If reusing your OEM Ball joints, Please be careful and wear safety glasses! the rivets will POP and go flying.

STEP 1: Removing your OEM ball joints

Securely mount your OEM control arms in a vice. Using a cutoff wheel, cut the heads of the 4 rivets as close to the base as possible as shown above. ***Be careful and wear safety glasses! The rivets will POP and go flying!***

Once the Rivets are cut, a few loving taps with a hammer and the ball joint will fall right out of the OEM UCA.

The remaining rivets can be tapped out of the Ball Joint with a hammer and a punch. This example pictured is exceptionally crusty. Before moving on to step 2, use a wire brush to  clean off the 40 plus years of grime and gunk that's accumulated. This is also an excellent time to replace the boot if needed.

STEP 2:  Tapping the Ball Joint. This is the recommended process as it captures the mounting bolt allowing for one sided tightening of the Camber Plate, making alignment adjustments easier on the tech and adding an additional safe guard. Drilling is an option, but due to the temper of the Ball Joint it is easy to cook lower quality bits. Drilling typically results in a much more frustrating experience and results in a less desirable outcome. Using 6mm bolts is NOT RECCOMENDED

Using a quality 5/16-24 tap and generous lubricant, tap all 4 holes in the UCA ball Joint. pay attention to making sure you are keeping the tap straight while cutting threads.

STEP 3:  Installing mounting bolts into the Ball Joint

Install all 4 5/16-24 mounting bolts into the Ball Joint from the bottom. Tighten bolts until fully bottomed out or 15-20ft/lb. For over achievers, adding a bit of Loctite 4-5 threads BELOW the head of the bolt sets the mounting bolts in for life. Do not Loctite the entirety of the bolt threads unless you hate your alignment tech.

Ball Joint should look like the picture above to continue to step 4

STEP 4:  Install the Ball Joint into the SICArm UCA

Insert the ball Joint in from the bottom of the UCA. Then mount the Camber Adjusting Plate followed by the mounting nuts, as seen in the photo. Tighten the mounting nuts loose enough to allow the adjusting screw to be able to function. The UCA is now ready to be mounted on the car!

SICArm LCA FRAME INSTALLATION STEPS:

**NOTES** The UCA bushings are pre-greased at assembly with silicone lube. It is recommended that you add a little bit of grease to the bushing faces at installation.  Use silicone grease (same thing as Dielectric grease) Or chassis grease.  Street guys like Silicone for poly and 4x4 guys use chassis grease. It's a never ending debate.

STEP 1: Install the UCA thru bolt

Install the UCA and insert the thru bolt through the control arm and frame, making sure to place the UCA washers in order as shown in the picture above.

STEP 2: Adding alignment shims

Grab a handful of Alignment shims and insert them between the two UCA Washers on each side of the shock tower like pictured above. You should try and shim the UCA so that its centered to the shock tower, if not slightly bias rearward. Be sure to fit as many shims as possible, taking up any gap or space. Once achieved, the LCA through bolt can be tightened down to 60ft/lb   The car does not need to be at ride height to tighten these bushings.

STEP 3: Mount Ball Joint in knuckle. Tighten to DMC factory specification and procedure

STEP 4:  Setting the camber plate

Using the adjuster screw pictured, set the adjuster plate close to the middle of its range. Tighten down The ball joint mounting bolts to 20-24 ft/lb. be sure to set the jam nut on the adjuster

Congratulations! you've completed the SICArm UCA install. Be sure to bring your shim assortment with you to the alignment shop and give it to the tech. I personally recommend adding a degree of caster over spec.

POST ALIGNMENT RECCOMENDATIONS:

After you've had your car aligned, it is recommended that you remove your alignment shims (being very careful to not mix up their order) and using a pair of calipers, measure the stack up height and replace with a washer stack or spacer of the same stackup height. This is not required but recommended. As long as the replacement washers or spacer matches the shim stack, the car does not need to be realigned afterwards.
